So yesterday I was lucky enough to receive a key to check out Moonrise and so far I like what I see. It’s a cute looking multiplayer RPG monster hunter style game. It is still in closed beta at the moment so what you see is subject to change but I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the game so far. Keep in mind that this game is meant to be a mobile game but it is also available on PC.
When you start the game, the first thing you do is customize your Warden. Here’s what I ended up with:
I hope that with time there will be more customization options because right now it’s pretty limited. Also I would love more outfit choices.
After you finish your Warden, you get to choose your monster (Solari) and do some trial battles. You will end up being able to pick two of them.
I found it pretty neat that your Warden gets abilities to fight with as well. That’s something I haven’t seen yet.
Alright so the gameplay is pretty fun. After the tutorial battles there are quests that tell you where to go and what to do so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. One thing I like is there is a temple with floors that you can clear and get some cool stuff to help grow your Solari and of course more Solari you can catch and use in your party.
When I saw that Kabam was working on this game as well, I did get a sort of sinking feeling because I have played a few Kabam games in the past and I feel like some of their games are a bit cash shop heavy. When I got into the game and browsed around the cash shop and played it for a bit, I realized there would be some downtime…to do the temples you need tickets which you have to wait to recharge after you use them or buy them from the cash shop. The keys you use to catch Solari do the same thing. You can catch a certain amount before you have to either wait for them to recharge or buy them from the cash shop. Luckily the temples aren’t the only things you can do so you can still go out and defeat Solari for things in the meantime but it does put a damper on getting new Solari and doing the temple for upgrades.
When it comes to the social aspect, I haven’t been able to test it much since I didn’t look for friends yet. I’m not sure if you can do co-op battles or PVP or if the only thing you can do is chat with them in game…so I don’t have anything to say about that. I am really hoping that there is a way to co-op because I know that would get a few people interested in the game for sure.
Either way this is what I have discovered so far of Moonrise. I didn’t play it too long yesterday since I ran out of keys and tickets but so far I do like where the game is going.
Also, there’s a Tavern. 😀
